Chih-Yuan Lu has been the President of Macronix Internat​ional Co., Ltd. since July 2007. Chih-Yuan Lu joined Macronix in 1999 as Senior Executive Advisor and Chief Technology Officer and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2003. During his tenure with Macronix, Chih-Yuan Lu's major achievements have been his strong visionary leadership and many technical and manufacturing breakthroughs in innovative non-volatile memory.

Prior to joining Macronix, Chih-Yuan Lu was recruited to join Taiwan's ERSO/ITRI (Electronic Research & Service Organization/Industrial Technology Research Institute) as Deputy General Director in 1989. He led to implement the largest and most ambitious National R&D Project "Submicron Project" ever undertaken in Taiwan and successfully transformed Taiwan to a powerful high-tech economy by developing first 8-inch world-class high density DRAM manufacturing technology, and setting the stage for the Taiwan IC industry. "Submicron Project" then became Vanguard International Semiconductor Company in 1994. At that time, Chih-Yuan Lu was the co-founder and Vice President of Vanguard. He was appointed to President in 1998.

Chih-Yuan Lu received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Columbia University. After his graduation in 1977, he had been a professor at the National Chiao Tung University, and had served as a Research Consultant of Science and Technology Advisory Group (STAG) of Executive Yuan of Taiwan, R.O.C., followed in 1984, he returned to U.S. to participate in AT&T Bell Labs to lead many research projects. Chih-Yuan Lu has accumulated more than 30 years of rich experiences in the semiconductor industry. He also founded Ardentec Corporation, a wafer level IC testing service company in 1999 and currently serves as the Chairman.

Chih-Yuan Lu has published over 500 scientific and technical publications as well as more than 160 granted invention patents. He is a Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics (IEEE) and a Fellow of American Physical Society (APS). Chih-Yuan Lu was also awarded a Fellow by Chinese Society for Management of Technology. He had served as an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices for 15 years and has received many honorary awards including 2012 IEEE Frederik Philips Award, the IEEE Third Millennium Medal, National Science and Technology Medal from Prime Minister of Taiwan, Outstanding Research Award of Pan Wen Yuan Foundation, Special Distinguished Award of Physical Society of Republic of China, Superiority Business Award by Ministry of Economics Affairs, R.O.C. and The General Chamber of Commerce of the R.O.C., Distinguished Alumni Award of National Taiwan University, Honorary Doctorate of National Chiao Tung University, ITRI Laureate, Presidential Science Prize and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Prize in Engineering Sciences, Outstanding Performance Award in the Field of Management of Technology of Chinese Society for Management of Technology, a Fellow of the US National Academy of Inventors​​, Academician of Academia Sinica, Materials Technology Contribution Award of Materials Research Society Taiwan, a Fellow of TWAS and George E. Pake Prize of APS.​​​​​
